@Bacioiu Ciprian

ok, i think i get it now, but he should really rephrase that a bit.

linux folks in the most part are an anti-monopoly community, not a "we want your work for free" bunch

if i wanted everything for free i would had stayed using windows and "P" like 85% of their users do.

i know am more than willing to pay for my entertainment and my games. I pay monthly fee for my online games, my console games, cable tv , the movies i watch, etc.

heck i even payed "extra" for my Ubuntu Dell laptop, when they had an offer for the same one with Vista $50 cheaper (at that time). So i actually payed for my "free" OS (and know of many others).

i think what most linux users had lacked is "time". As developers we've been so buried into our own projects that we forget to even play a nice game. Now that am not so much into my own proj, (or fixing/tweaking much my OS thanks to it's maturity) and more as an avg. joe, i got free time to look into other people's creations and support those available in the platform.

so, just like those mastercard ads, helping out a fellow user and indie dev is "priceless" :)

I think that with “This was very surprising to me as I assumed that no one would ever pay for anything on Linux.”, he meant that he wasn't expecting that people would actually buy a game that is commercial(not as in pirate it), when most of the games that are on linux are free and/or open source.

nice to know the linux version is selling much better, supporting linux really pays off, not only for the added publicity, but also because marketshare is increasing.

Ubuntu + google android (hoping to see an android version soon), FTW! xD

oh and most of the time a linux user would use their own time and resources (pay, donate or just plain cooperate) to help a fellow user or indie dev like yourself succeed.

if you ever need support from an honest and willing community you know we got your back.

BUT, you have a BIG misconception because we actually work so hard for everything we accomplished

i believe you are CONFUSING us with SOFTWARE PIRATES when you give this description.....:
"This was very surprising to me as I assumed that no one would ever pay for anything on Linux."

this is the most honest community you can find and "piracy" actually hurts the open source movement and mindshare. Our tools are for people who actually need them, so those pirated tools/games most windows users use don't do any good for anyone.

Yep it was fun. For 5 bugs I even purchased the Linux version without playing the demo first, which I regularly don't do ;)

A lot of developers think that because Linux is free that the users only want free. That is one of the biggest myths about Linux. Linux users are just like any other user. We just want something that works. If we have to pay for it, we will gladly pay for it. If you want some more good reads on why developers should support Linux, take a look at these posts.
