Some people are doing some great stuff in the indie games sphere!
However, the main stream game industry shouldn’t feel they need to experiment as much as the indie games world does.
What they should do is just steal learn from all the good ideas that come out of it that they feel would work in their titles.
Let the indies take game play risks, they’re in a better position to do so. Let the AAA polish the game play and presentation, that’s what they’re good at.
That’s my take on it.
What’s yours?

If you had not used the word ‘steal’, and had instead used a less emotionally charged word or suggested that major game producers acquire indie companies with AAA-worthy ideas, I might agree with you.
As it is, though… I think they do quite enough ‘idea stealing’ as it is.

Acquiring an indie company would make it so that indie company wasn’t indie any more. I think keeping them indie is important.
Most indie developers dream of making it big, but that’s disillusionment! As soon as they make it big they are no longer indie. Sure they may be “independent”, but then they lose the freedom being indie provides. Larger budgets means there is more at stake. If you just go making anything you want, you could bankrupt your independent studio… and then you would be back to doing indie stuff again.
